Joe’s Table and Chairs

IMG_0610

Well, week three of our Round Tuit Challenge is complete!  I got the chairs fixed from the kiddy table I picked up for Joe.  Yes, I picked it up off the side of the road.  But in total:  this project cost me 2 mosquito bites and less than $5!  I got mosquito bites picking it up off the side of the road.  I used some clearanced out fabric.  And I got the foam at JoAnn’s Fabrics with a 50% off coupon.  The staples we and glue we already had.

First I took the old plastic cover off.  The little piece that secures it to the frame just slides out.  Then removing the staples was pretty easy with a knife and needle nose pliers.

Then I traced out the seat on the foam piece I bought.  The other seat I piece-mealed all together and glued it just to make life easier.  Then cut the fabric big enough to cover the foam with a couple inches to spare on each side.

And not too bad for my first upholster job! (I fully admit I had to re-do the first chair and I had to google how to spell upholster)

And although you may not agree, I didn’t think that fabric isn’t super boy-ish mattered too much.  It is a canvas, so it’s heavier.  But I figured with kids it would just be covered in juice and boogers before too long.  🙂

And we had the best time coloring!  Joe colored so much today(please ignore all the mess in the background).  He loved getting in and out of the chair himself.  He would work on his paper, then come over and help me with mine.  It was pretty darn cute.  We even has snacks at the table today.

So… this week I’m going to clean all my ceiling fans really well.  I’m coming down with the cold Joe has had, so hopefully I will be able to get it all done.  What projects are you working on?
